The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is a global commercial interior design network of 15,000+ members across 58 countries. The organization supports design professionals from designers to architects, as well as industry affiliates, educators, students, firms and their clients.

IIDA advocates for advancements in education, design excellence, legislation, leadership, accreditation and community outreach to increase the value and understanding of Interior Design as a profession that enhances business value and positively impacts the health and wellbeing of people’s lives every day.

The Challenge

IIDA first approached Clearfire in November 2021. After a negative experience with a previous design agency, they were looking for a new agency to take over their recently launched website. The new launch unfortunately hadn’t been a smooth process, and the organization was scrambling to find an agency with Craft CMS experience to finish components of the site that still weren’t done.

With Clearfire’s extensive experience with Craft CMS, design and UI experience, IIDA decided to partner with us not only to finalize their new website redesign but also work with them on a monthly retainer basis.

The Solution

Our first task was to complete their redesign.

The most urgent issue was the membership component of the site, which syncs with a Salesforce login system called Fonteva. The new website was intended to enable IIDA to post exclusive members-only content that would only be visible to logged-in paid members, but the integration wasn’t working properly – which meant that thousands of IIDA’s members couldn't view unique member content they were paying a monthly subscription for.

Not only were members not getting what they needed, but this restricted the organization from recruiting new members and promoting new members-only events, content and more, which had significant financial implications.

Clearfire quickly fixed IIDA’s web integration and authentication with Salesforce, allowing the members to log in to the site and see members-only content. We also polished off several other pieces of the site that hadn’t been finished in the redesign process.

Once those immediate issues were resolved, IIDA moved forward with an ongoing partnership, contracting with us through a monthly retainer agreement to provide design services, custom development, consulting, audits, SEO evaluations, accessibility performances and more.

One of the causes of agency relationships-gone-bad that we frequently see is the lack of communication and transparency between clients and their development team. Unfortunately this had been the case with IIDA’s previous partner, so we knew it was crucial for us to establish trust and transparency from the beginning.

An important way that Clearfire provides a higher level of service to our clients is by including developers in client conversations. This allows our developers to hear firsthand what the client is looking for and answer any technical questions the client has, ensuring that nothing gets lost in translation.

Results

Today, IIDA has a polished website that includes a robust members-only section and continues to work with Clearfire on iterative changes and improvements, as well as developing new features and functionality. The ongoing website updates and new initiatives we implement enables IIDA to recruit new members and propel their mission forward.
